In a world obsessed with perfection, showing up imperfectly but faithfully and mindfully has been a powerful shift. Over the last 100 days, I have devoted myself to being present in my life, not just in body, but in mind and spirit using the insight timer app as a companion and guide. This journey has further illuminated the value of mindfulness, the beauty of imperfection, and the impact of consistency in and through me.
Here today, I want us to explore a little deeper what it truly means to show up faithfully and mindfully, and how accepting our imperfections can lead to a richer life.
The Power of Showing Up
Showing up means more than just being there physically; it involves engaging with our surroundings, thoughts, and emotions. It means being fully aware of the moment and allowing ourselves to experience life as it unfolds.
Committing to this practice can take many forms, whether it's attending a mindfulness class, using the mindfulness insight timer app like I did, or simply pausing for a deep breath to appreciate our internal and external surroundings
By making the effort to show up, we create a nurturing space for growth and connection. This commitment cultivates a sense of belonging and purpose that adds depth to our everyday lives.
Mindfulness: The Art of Being Present
Mindfulness is about fully engaging in the present moment without judgment. It encourages us to observe our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them.
During these 100 days, practicing mindfulness has profoundly changed my perspective. Simple activities like morning meditation and prayer, mindful walking around my cottage garden have helped slow down my thoughts that can race wildly at times. Research shows that regular mindfulness practice can reduce our stress by 30% and increase emotional resilience, making it a worthwhile investment.
Mindfulness also deepens our connection to our inner selves and fosters a clearer understanding of our emotions. It reminds us to appreciate our imperfections and see them as integral to our unique life journey.
Embracing Imperfection
In a culture that often champions perfection, accepting our flaws can be tough. Yet embracing imperfection is crucial for personal growth.
Letting go of the need to be perfect opens us up to new experiences and opportunities. For example, when I again took up being creative through my artistic passion, I initially focused on achieving “perfect” results. However, learning to appreciate my messy pastel, pencil and brush strokes the joy of creating made the process even more rewarding in itself.
Throughout these 100 days, I have discovered that stumbling is part of the process. Each misstep is an opportunity for growth, and that realisation is worth celebrating.
The Role of Consistency
Consistency is vital for showing up mindfully. It's not about performing flawlessly; instead, it’s about dedicating ourselves to our well-being.
Establishing a simple routine can empower us to stay grounded and focused. Setting aside moments each morning for prayer and meditation then again in the evening for reflection has significantly enhanced my mindfulness practice.
Over these 100 days, I realised that even small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful change. The key is to practice patience with ourselves and accept that progress involves time.
Finding Joy in the Journey
As we move through life, finding joy in the journey is essential, rather than fixating solely on the destination.
Faithfully and mindfully engaging in life creates room for joy to flourish. Small moments like laughter, feeling the warmth of the sun on our skin, or marveling at nature’s beauty become treasures we appreciate.
Focusing on the present fosters gratitude, enriching our lives. This gratitude helps us embrace our imperfections, recognising them as aspects of our shared human experience.
Building a Supportive Community
Support from a community can significantly enhance our journey. Connecting with others who share our values creates a network of encouragement, making it easier to commit to being present. It is why, I am busy getting the "Kre'at Hub" ready for launch.
The Kre'at community hub will link a varied number of ventures that I hope will inspire and encourage you to join. From a monthly book club, daily prayer, meditation and mindfulness circles these moments that we can come together and share experiences and challenges with others, I hope will foster a sense of belonging reminding us that we are not solitary in our struggles and that together we can walk onwards and forward.
Having a support system can provide motivation and enhance our commitment to showing up and that is one very big mission at Studio Kre'at.
