Not Alone In The Making: ~ A Prayerful Reflection

Lord,

Today I find myself thinking about hands.

Hands that stitched before mine.

Hands that carried responsibilities I can only begin to imagine.

Hands that repaired, comforted, provided, and persevered.

As I continue stitching my legacy quilt, I am reminded that every thread I pull today follows a path laid down by someone before me.

My thoughts return to Mary Martha.

To the quilts she made.

To the hours she spent creating warmth and comfort from her own hands.

Though separated by generations, I feel her presence in the rhythm of the needle.

Not because I know every detail of her life, but because I recognise something familiar in the act of making.

The patience.

The care.

The quiet determination.

The willingness to create something that would outlast the moment.

As I stitch my own handprints and footprints into this quilt, I realise I am leaving a message for those who will come after me.

A simple reminder:

“My footprint is always with you.”

AND

“Here are my hands to hold you whenever you need them.”

Yet perhaps those words are not travelling in only one direction.

Perhaps they are also being whispered back through the generations.

Perhaps every woman who came before me is saying:

“You are not alone.”

“Our footprints are with you too.”

“Our hands helped carry you here.”

And so today I give thanks.

For the threads that connect us.

For the stories that survive.

For the love that continues travelling forward through families, memories, creativity, and faith.

Help me to honour what has been passed into my hands.

Help me to create with intention.

Help me to leave behind traces of kindness, courage, and love.

And when life feels heavy, remind me that none of us are making our lives alone.

We are held by those who came before us.

We are strengthened by those who walk beside us.

And we are creating something for those who will one day follow after.
